- The Shochiku film series "Tora-san" (It's Tough Being a Man), for which Yoji Yamada served as original creator, screenwriter, and director (with some exceptions) and Kiyoshi Atsumi starred, had its first film released in 1969. A total of 48 films were released over 26 years until 1995, making it a nationally beloved series.
