- Overall, the site is crafted as an experiential platform with a very strong impact and sense of immersion. Unlike typical tourism sites or experience-reservation platforms, it distinctively emphasizes not a "place to observe sumo" but an "experience of stepping into the real world of sumo." Throughout the pages, the presentation prioritizes authenticity and intensity over tourist-friendly approachability, conveying strong branding aimed at international users.
The color scheme is extremely simple, centered on a composition that uses black as the base with bold white typography. This palette strips away unnecessary decoration and makes the power and tension of sumo itself stand out. Additionally, the skin tones in the photos and the colors of the dohyo function as natural accents, giving the entire site a unique sense of intensity. It is impressive that the design relies on the energy of the photographs rather than flashy colors.
In terms of structure, the site creates a strong impression with a large initial visual, then gradually introduces the concept and the experience content. The section layout using especially large headings is very powerful and effectively draws the viewer’s emotions. The amount of information is relatively compact, but each element has a clear role, allowing visitors to read through without their attention wandering.
The use of photography is also highly effective. Because actual bouts, the sense of distance to the audience, and the venue’s atmosphere are prominently shown, visitors can intuitively understand what kind of experience they can have. In particular, scenes of the crowd surrounding the dohyo and the powerful moments between rikishi convey the experiential value more than mere descriptive text. Photos of the facility’s interior are also inserted appropriately, creating a sense of real atmosphere.
Typography is one of the site’s major features. Headings that use extremely large font sizes visually express the power and impact of sumo and greatly contribute to shaping the brand image. The type itself functions as a design element, creating an experience that leaves an impression even just by scrolling.
Overall, the site succeeds in conveying a "special experience of encountering authentic sumo culture" rather than merely providing tourist information. The sense of a unified worldview is very strong, with photography, typography, and color all aligned in the same direction. It is especially effective at impressing international users with the force and uniqueness of Japanese culture, and it feels like a highly polished design for an experiential service site.
