- Site Description
- Ryusenji is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Shimotakaido, Suginami Ward, Tokyo, formally known as Reigyokuzan. Its principal image is a seated statue of Shaka Nyorai. It is a historic temple said to have been founded in August of Keicho 8 (1603) in Edo Koji-machi (present-day Kioicho, Chiyoda Ward).
- Design
- This temple also houses a 1-meter-tall Jizo statue called "Kitamuki Jizo" (North-Facing Jizo), alongside the "Rokujizo" (Six Jizo Statues). It is said that since the Edo period, this Jizo has gathered deep faith due to its profound divine efficacy in curing intractable diseases such as fevers.
