- Silica gel prominently displays "Not for consumption," and a delicious-looking food sample is hard and unappetizing when put in one's mouth. Cotton candy presumably gets its name from its resemblance to cotton, and sometimes, just by looking at something that isn't food, one can imagine its texture and taste as if it were edible. I am contemplating the ambiguous period before making a definitive judgment on whether something is edible or not—the impulse to unconsciously pick it up and put it in one's mouth, and the time spent imagining its taste simply from its appearance.
