Site Description: Shimokitayama Village is a small mountain village with a population of about 800 located in the southernmost part of Nara Prefecture. The villagers live a peaceful and relaxed life surrounded by the great nature of the Kii Mountain Range. Adjacent to the village are Kumano City in Mie Prefecture and Kitayama Village in Wakayama Prefecture. Although deep in the mountains, the village also enjoys the benefits of the sea. In recent years, the village has been actively promoting immigration and settlement by establishing a co-working space and a sawmill, training self-supporting foresters, and improving the production and sales system for agricultural products such as Shimokita Harumana, the village's traditional vegetable.
